Annual General Meeting
The Markham Sport Council held its Annual General Meeting on January 12, 2009 at the Town’s Civic Centre with over 40 members in attendance. Our goal this year is to begin working with the Town and all of the community leaders, volunteers, and participants in sport programming and events to develop a “made in Markham” Community Sport Strategy for all of our stakeholders.

“Community Sport Volunteer Awards Dinner”
In partnership with the Town and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Markham Sport Council hosted the first ever Community Sport Volunteer Awards Dinner honouring sport organizations with over 10, 20 and 30 years of leadership in Markham.

Pan American Games - Bid Launch
Markham Sport Council members gathered with athletes and business leaders along with Markham’s Mayor Scarpitti and members of Council to witness the official launch of the Bid to host the 2015 Pan Am Games by Chairperson David Peterson. If successful, competition venues could be scattered across the region that covers 33,500 square kms in the Toronto/ Greater Golden Horseshoe.

Highlights
The Markham Cricket Academy (MCA) has provided their Junior Players with seven overseas tours: Guyana 2000; Devonshire England 2002; Trinidad 2004; Lancashire England 2005; Barbados 2006; San Jose California 2007; and St. Kitts 2008. Three players secured summer play with Clubs in England, and MCA also sent a talented young Cricketer to the Somerset “School of Excellence” for assessment.
Current Events
Indoor coaching is currently underway at 237 Finchdene Sq. and is open to all juniors between the ages of 8 and 18.

The MCA was invited by the U.S Cricket Council to take part in a 20/20 Tournament in South Florida. Tournament awards $100,000.00 |
| June – August 2009 |
The MCA took part in local Cricket games at the U11-U15-U-17 and U-19 age groups |
| July 2009 |
The MCA participated in a Cricket tournament in Jamaica W.I. |
| September 2009 |
The MCA met with the permitting department of the Town of Markham to schedule the use for the 2010 season of the new outdoor Cricket facility on Elson Road near Markham Road and Steeles Ave. |
